West Loopers and South Loopers you live near some of the only squash courts in the city and it’s a great winter sport with lots of competition and culture awaiting you.
I have been a member of Lakeshore and had a lesson on the courts at University Club. Lakeshore was pretty affordable (About $150 a month). Check out Lakeshore here. University Of Chicago has courts too if your south.
What a great sport Squash is. It differs from racquetball in that it’s a smaller court with a less bouncy ball, so I personally sweat more and seem to get three times more cardio than racquetball.
Chicago has Squash Culture
This weekend shows you a pinnacle event of the sport. It was tight here in Chicago. The squashers out there had a fun time this weekend with some of the best players in the world under the Frank Gehry at Millenium park. I stopped by to see the court and caught a few games at the open day at the University Club and was reminded of the quality play here. To see clips of the pros check out Word Squash.
Squash And Mentoring
If you want to play squash or learn about a great philanthropy that gets Chicago school kids to play squash and mentors them check out Metro Squash. They focus on schools near U of C and have made a great impact on the kids they’ve worked with
